My confession for today–I’m a closet crafter. I don’t know how to sew much at all. But give me a glue gun and scrap fabric, and I’m a happy girl. I follow the trends of each decade. In elementary school I would sit for hours with a ball of yarn and make covered hangers for Christmas presents. When I was in college, I was the ultimate cross-stitching queen (my daughter thinks that is hilarious). And I really don’t want to think about how much money I’ve invested in scrapbooking supplies. So when I discovered Pinterest, I found a glimpse of glory.
Familiar with Pinterest? It’s one of the social networking crazes of the past year. I actually mentioned it at one of the BGCO Board meetings and I was faced with a lot of stares. Remember, this crowd is mostly men and they still have trouble combining women and ministry in the same sentence. Add recipes, decorating and crafts and the result is worse than falling off the fiscal cliff for these men. I even had to spell it for them.
And now our office is designing an event around the theme of Pinterest. It’s our annual “Embrace” retreat for women leaders–a weekend where leaders network, share and learn about the latest ministry trends, hot topics and resources. It’s a weekend for the BGCO to “pour into” the lives of leaders who are usually on the giving end. We want these leaders to leave refreshed and revitalized to face a new year of ministering to women.
The best part is that you don’t even have to know what Pinterest is or have a Pinterest account. We just want you to come and let us equip you in your calling. The date of the retreat is January 18-19, 2013 and it is held at Sullivant Retreat Center outside of Norman. There is no cost to attend, but it is limited to the first 50 women who sign up. Because of the limited space, we ask that only one woman per church attend.
