Servant evangelism is not a new term or a new practice. I’ve been around long enough to see the changes of evangelism strategies which have morphed from week-long church revivals, Tuesday night visitation, Evangelism Explosion and FAITH. I think these are still valid strategies of teaching believers how to share their faith and leading others to faith in Christ.  But, today’s strategy of serving and looking for ways to engage others in a faith conversation definitely seems very natural and genuine.

Our convention will begin a new emphasis for churches to teach their congregations how to “Serve Like Jesus” at next week’s State Evangelism Conference. Most women’s ministries in our state are already engaged in service projects and ways to engage their community, but this conference will highlight how your church can take servant evangelism to a new level.

On Tuesday, January 29, our office will offer breakout sessions designed especially for women. In addition, we have a women’s luncheon at noon featuring special guest, Lauren Chandler. Chandler is the wife of Matt Chandler, pastor of The Village Church. Lauren will share her personal story of how the body of Christ served their family in the midst of Matt’s brain tumor diagnosis. The tickets are $15 and you can purchase them here. Tickets must be purchased prior to the luncheon.

Breakout sessions begin at 9 a.m. and the conference is at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Here is a quick look at the sessions and who will be leading them:

Monica Rose Brennan: Equipping Women to Serve Like Jesus
In Monica’s session, you will discover how to equip women to evangelize and disciple others in the local church. Women will be reminded of the necessity of women reaching women found in Titus 2:3-5, as well as how to apply unchanging, Biblical principles to their everyday lives. Come for a time of inspiration and encouragement as we learn how to serve like Jesus!

Shelley Urton: Serve Like Jesus in Practical Ways
Come hear about practical ways you, your family and your church can impact the community around you. In addition, hear how Shelley experienced working alongside members of her church and how they served like Jesus in the mission field of their own neighborhood.

Heather Keller: Teaching Your Child to Serve Like Jesus
Come and join the discussion, see the research and hear from a mom and children’s ministry consultant about ways to serve alongside your children while teaching them what it means to be like Jesus. You will leave this session with easy-to-implement ideas that will have you and your children looking for the next service opportunity!

Amy Hanson: Finishing Well: Making a Kingdom Impact
While the world may teach us that the second-half of life is a time for slowing down, the truth is that your family, your friends, your community and your church desperately need what you have to offer. In Amy’s session, she will be sharing how to debunk several myths about aging and will look at how you can use your time, resources and experience to make a difference for Christ in this world.
